Cylinders

For many applications in the gas world one works with individual gas cylinders (gas bottles). The consumption of a specific gas is often so low that one only has to exchange the gas bottle sporadically. Also in the case of mixtures, it is often too complex for the gas to be delivered through a bulk system and it and can be better to pre-blend it in the gas bottle.

Gas cylinders can be supplied in various sizes and at various pressures. With IJsfabriek Strombeek most of the gasses are filled at the standard pressure of 200 bar, but we can also fill gas cylinders at 150 bar and even at a higher pressure of 300 bar. This of course depends on the gas cylinder, which must be suitable for the filling pressure.

The content of the gas bottle varies from 2 litres up to 50 litres. The most used cylinder capacities are:

  • 2 litres
  • 5 litres
  • 10 litres
  • 13 litres
  • 15 litres (300 bar)
  • 20 litres
  • 27 litres
  • 30 litres (300 bar)
  • 45 litres
  • 50 litres

A gas cylinder is provided with a colour code and a CLP-label. In this way, it can be determined from a large distance what type of gas it is and if the gas is dangerous. The colour red is for example typical for flammable gases. White is the colour for oxygen and black for nitrogen. A detailed overview can be found in the gases colour card at our safety sheets.

For the different gases standard stop cock connections are also provided. The connections differ to eliminate dangerous errors by the customer. That is why a stop cock on a flammable gas is provided with a left-hand pipe connection. An oxygen stop crane connection is equipped with an internal right thread connection. For inert gases, it is usually made use of a right-handed external thread connection. For the connections on the gas cylinders of IJsfabriek Strombeek we refer to the summary table.

The gas cylinders are provided with appropriately developed transportation containers and are delivered upright. Depending on the number of cylinders the transportation containers shall be made available to the customer.

The gas bottle must be inspected every 10 years and is then also undergoing a new painting. The maintenance costs will be charged through rent or storage money. In order to promote a rapid rotation, the gas cylinders are made available to our customers for a period of up to 30 days free of charge. From the 31st day rent will be charged.
