CO₂ after epidemic

Since the latest outbreak of avian flu, a decade ago, there is a lot of testing done with different methods at the disposal of the stables poultry. An essential point of attention here was and remains the animal welfare.

Application scope

The use of CO2 gas appears to be best suited for the cleaning of stables after the outbreak of an epidemic. CO2 gas is hereby used to suffocate the infected animals in an animal friendly way.

Two techniques are hereby applicable:

  • The isolation of a stable and aerate it with gaseous CO2 that comes from a tank wagon via an evaporator.
  • In the case of smaller cleaning actions, one can make use of dry ice to produce the suffocating gas.

Requirements

For large culls, the CO2 gas can be pumped directly from a tank vehicle in the barn (the liquid CO2 is via an evaporator as a gas introduced in the stable). In the case of smaller culls, or if there are too many leaks in the barn, the animals are to be placed outside where they will be stunned and killed in a mobile installation (container).

IJsfabriek Strombeek has been for decades a point of reference in the field of CO2. With our large capacity we can at any time provide sufficient CO2, together with the necessary equipment.

Our team of engineers will guide you with all their experience and expertise throughout the entire process.

Advantages

  • is quick
  • is suitable for both large and smaller culls
  • is the best for the welfare of animals because it avoids anxiety, stress and injuries to the animals
